Things to do in Calgary, 2026
We counted which places Calgary locals suggest most to visitors on r/Calgary, then checked each one's official hours, prices and transit access. Prices are as of Oct. 7, 2026.
Top picks: what Calgary locals recommend most
We read 11 threads on r/Calgary, the city's main Reddit forum, where visitors asked what to do in Calgary between Feb. 5 and Sept. 18, 2026. We counted how many top-level replies named each place: 190 replies in all (our calculation; method below). The counts are small and come from one forum, so read them as a measure of what regulars suggest, not as a survey. Hours, prices and transit come from each operator's own website, the City of Calgary and Calgary Transit, checked Oct. 7, 2026.
The most-mentioned place of all was Banff, in 19 replies, followed further down by Drumheller (8) and Canmore (6). They are day trips, so they get their own section below; the picks cover places in the city.

What locals told visitors
These are anecdotes from one forum, not a survey. Commenters did not always say where they live; we quote only replies in r/Calgary, a Calgary forum. Three patterns stood out besides the advice above.
Get on the river pathways. The path network drew more mentions than any museum, usually with a suggestion to rent a bike or scooter.
“Rent a bike and explore the river pathway network. Or just take an e-scooter.”
r/Calgary, Sept. 18, 2026 · Read on Reddit
“the … car free pathway network. I'm continually shocked by how many locals have no idea that we have this world class network.”

TELUS Spark is for kids. When a honeymooning couple listed the science centre, 4 of the 5 replies that named it told them to drop it.
“Skip Telus Spark. It’s honestly not good at all other than for young kids.”

“Science centre is not worth it IMO. It's not nearly as good as the old one was.”

The tower splits opinion. Some said go up for the view; one suggested a drink at the Sky360 restaurant at the top instead of a deck ticket. We did not check the restaurant's prices or booking terms.
“Instead of buying tower tickets, make a reservation for Sky 360 for drinks and appetizers.”

How we did this
Local mentions. On Oct. 7, 2026, we searched r/Calgary for "things to do," "visiting Calgary," "first time in Calgary" and "hidden gems," limited to the past year, and picked 12 threads by title, leaving out posts about food, dating, jobs and moving. After reading them we dropped one, in which residents compared parts of their own city instead of advising a visitor. That left 11 threads posted between Feb. 5 and Sept. 18, 2026, with 190 top-level replies. One thread asked about a four-year-old and a baby, which lifts the counts for the zoo, Heritage Park and city parks. Another was a couple's list that included TELUS Spark and the Calgary Tower, so replies reacted to both. A third, about a December visit, drew mostly advice on clothes and safety. For each place we counted the replies that named it, once per reply, using a list of names and common spellings (for example "National Music Centre" counts for Studio Bell, and "Bow River," "river pathway" and "along the river" count for the river pathways). A mention is not always praise: some replies named a place to say skip it. Replies to replies were not counted. Our scraper loaded most but not always all replies in a thread, so the counts may run slightly low.
Official facts. Hours, prices and transit come from each operator's own website, the City of Calgary, Calgary Transit, Alberta Parks, Parks Canada and Tourism Calgary, checked Oct. 7, 2026. The zoo and the Calgary Tower set prices by date, so we don't quote them. Opening hours change by season; check before you go.
What we didn't do. We didn't visit the places ourselves, rank restaurants or list one-off events. We left out chinooks, the warm winter winds, because we did not find an official source to cite.
