Volaris becomes the first airline to agree to operate from Felipe Angeles Airport

The Mexican airline Volaris announced on Wednesday the decision to start operations on commercial flights from Felipe Angeles International Airport (AIFA), as of March 21 of next year, the day on which the Santa Lucia airport is expected to be inaugurated by the president Andrés Manuel López Obrador.

Volaris becomes the first commercial company to confirm its participation in the new air terminal promoted by President López Obrador. The cities to which the airline will arrive from the new airport will be Tijuana and Cancun, both routes with daily frequencies. The flights will be on sale from today on their website.

The airline concluded that it would be feasible to operate from Felipe Angeles airport, after an extensive analysis of the progress of construction -including passenger, operational and maintenance services-; progress in the certification processes, take-off processes and approaches; development in land access roads; efforts in rates and aeronautical and operational safety, it said in a statement.

Volaris said it will maintain its current operating strategy in the Mexico City International Airport (AICM), as well as in the other 42 airports in the country. These new routes will be additional to its current offer at the capital airport.

The airline, which annually transports around 25 million passengers in Mexico, assured that only in the immediate area of ​​the new airport there is a market of 4.8 million potential customers.

For its part, the Secretary of National Defense, through General Gustavo Ricardo Vallejo Suárez, responsible for the construction of AIFA and a member of the Army Corps of Engineers, recognized this first formal step of the industry and promised to finish the processes in progress.
