9 Active COVID-19 Cases in Guelph, Over 90% of Eligible Residents Fully Vaccinated | The Canadian News

Guelph’s public health unit reported no new COVID-19 cases on Wednesday, as the city’s total case count stood at 5,089.

Active confirmed cases in Guelph fell to nine and another recovery was reported.

The total of resolved cases amounted to 5,035 and the death toll related to the coronavirus in the city is 45.

Five new cases have been reported in Wellington County, where the total case count during the pandemic has reached 2,052.

Active cases rose to 20 in the county and four recoveries were reported. The death toll in the county related to the new coronavirus remains at 38.

In Wellington-Dufferin-Guelph, there are three cases that are treated in the hospital, including one in intensive care.

Local school boards do not report active cases of COVID-19 among staff and students in Guelph and Wellington County.

Wellington-Dufferin-Guelph Public Health says 85.3 percent of eligible residents, those who turn 12 in 2021 or older, consider themselves fully vaccinated, while 88.1 have received a dose of the vaccine.

In Guelph, 90.6% of eligible residents are fully vaccinated and 93.5% are partially vaccinated, while in Wellington County, 78.1% are fully vaccinated and 80.5% have received a dose.

So far this week, about 1,000 vaccine injections have been given, including about 300 first doses, roughly 600 second doses, and 100 third doses.

Third doses are offered to specific high-risk groups, such as organ transplant recipients and residents of high-risk congregated settings.

Public health is publishing COVID-19 vaccination rates at local elementary and middle schools.

As of Wednesday, 79.3 percent of eligible students on the Upper Grand District School Board have been fully vaccinated, while 81.7 percent have received two doses on the Wellington Catholic District School Board.

Upper Grand says 89.7 percent of its permanent employees have attested to be fully vaccinated as of October 20, while Wellington Catholic says 94.4 percent have attested to be fully vaccinated as of October 15.
