Quintana Roo would close the year with 120,000 hotel rooms

Cancun, QR. The report How are we doing ?, prepared by the Secretary of Tourism of Quintana Roo (Sedetur), establishes that with cut to October of this year the entity adds 116,820 hotel rooms, that is, 1,873 more than the 114,947 with which it started year.

The annual statistics show that despite the pandemic, the opening of new hotels did not stop this year or even during 2020, even with the confinement as a result of the health crisis.

In three years, the entity would be growing its hotel infrastructure in practically 17,000 rooms distributed in 200 new lodging centers.

According to the statistical report of the Sedetur, in 2018 there were 102,890 hotel rooms and a total of 1,074 lodging centers. For 2019 the figure increased to 107,128 rooms and 1,129 hotels. For 2020, the figure continues to increase to almost 115,000 rooms and 1,189 hotels, while at the end of 2021 it is very likely that the numbers will exceed the 116,820 rooms reported at the cut of October.

Only on December 7, the 715-room Hilton Cancun an All Inclusive Resort hotel was inaugurated, with an investment of 500 million dollars, 16 kilometers from the International Airport and 30 kilometers from the Cancun Hotel Zone.

In addition, another property called Etereo was opened, Auberge Resorts Collection, a new 75-room beachfront property within the Kanai development, in Playa del Carmen.

To this is added the new Residence Inn by Marriott with 149 rooms in Playa del Carmen, which is the second of this brand to open in Quintana Roo, as well as another Residence Inn at kilometer 23 of the Cancun Hotel Zone with 158 rooms inaugurated last november.

Two new AM Resorts hotels also entered operation in the last two months of the year, one under the Breathless brand in Cancun and the other under the Secrets brand in Playa del Carmen with 500 rooms each.

These six additions add up to at least another 2,097 rooms that were not included in the report How are we doing? of Sedetur, so that by the end of 2021 the total figure will touch 120,000 throughout the entity.

With cut to October of this year, Cancun has 38,812 rooms, Puerto Morelos has 7,057, Isla Mujeres with 8,316, Cozumel with 4,701, Solidaridad with 43,771, Tulum with 8,390, Holbox with 1,551, Kantunilkín with 106, José María Morelos with 74, Felipe Carrillo Puerto with 186, Bacalar with 1,050, Chetumal with 2,187, Kohunlich with 42 and Costa Maya with 577.

By 2022, Hilton chain executives announced that they will open a 350-room Conrad by Hilton and a 750-room Hilton Tulum, in addition to the completion of a 178-room Waldorf Astoria in Cancun, which together will add another 600 million euros. dollars in investment and 1,278 rooms, additional to the hotel that opened in early December.
