Ontario reports record 13,807 COVID-19 cases, 30.5% positivity as hospitalizations trend upward

Ontario Reports Another 13,807 COVID-19 Cases and Eight More Deaths, according to your latest report released Thursday morning.

Vaccines

Ontario has administered 197,280 vaccine dose since its last daily update, with 27,012,866 vaccinations administered in total at 8 pm the night before.

The provincial data now includes a cumulative number of people who have received booster doses. In Ontario, 3,392,882 people have received three doses of any Health Canada approved vaccine.

According to Star’s vaccine tracker, 12,197,443 people in Ontario have received at least one injection. That equates to about 87.0% of the eligible population ages five and older and the equivalent of 83.0% of the total population, including those not yet eligible for the vaccine.

The province says 11,404,979 people have completed their vaccinations, meaning they have received both doses. That works out to about 81.3 percent of the eligible population ages five and older, and the equivalent of 77.6 percent of the total population, including those not yet eligible for the vaccine.

Hospitalizations by vaccine status

The province has not released data on COVID-19 cases and rates by vaccination status at time of publication, as of Thursday morning.

COVID test

The seven-day average is 10,328 cases per day.

The province says 67,301 tests were completed the day before and a positivity rate of 30.5 percent.

There are currently 965 people hospitalized with COVID-19 in the province, including 186 intensive care patients who have tested positive for COVID-19. There are 104 people with fans. On Wednesday, the province reported 726 hospitalizations, for comparison.

The province has not released daily COVID-19 case data for each public health unit in Ontario at press time, as of Thursday morning.

COVID in long-term care

Meanwhile, the province reports that there are no new deaths in long-term care, so the number of residents who have died remains the same at 3,833, in the latest report published by the province.

Ontario reports the outbreak of 11 more long-term care homes, for a total of 58 or 9.2 percent of LTC homes in the province.

These data are self-reported by long-term care homes to the Ministry of Long-Term Care. Daily case and death figures may not immediately match the figures published by local public health units due to delays in reporting time.

Variants of concern

There are 80 more cases of the Delta variant first detected in India, for a cumulative total of 17,525 cases.

There are 475 more cases of the Omicron variant first identified by South Africa, for a cumulative total of 2,326 cases.
