1 sent to the hospital amid a fire in an apartment in a skyscraper in downtown Hamilton – Hamilton | The Canadian News

One person was sent to the hospital following a multiple alarm fire on the 17th floor of a Hamilton skyscraper Wednesday night.

Firefighters say they reached Vanier Towers on Jackson Street West near Hess Street in downtown shortly after 6 p.m. following reports of flames from the building.

“Firefighters located a person inside the apartment during their search efforts and quickly removed them from the apartment,” according to Deputy Deputy Chief Steve Welton.

“Then Hamilton’s paramedics took the patient to the hospital in stable condition.”

Evacuated residents were able to return to their units after crews put out the fire.

Damage to the building is estimated to be about $ 30,000.

An investigation into the cause is underway.
