We hear you, Facebook commenters: It snows every year. It rains every year. We know what freezing rain is like. We live in Montreal, we understand that.

Still, the weather is in the news today, just as it was in the Montreal Gazette on December 6, 1950:

The light snowfall on Monday caused confusion and delays across the city during rush hour. And only an inch of snow fell. What will happen when the city is hit, like every year, by a real snowfall? Montréal’s know this all too well. Conditions like these on Windsor and Dorchester streets will be widespread, but much worse.

In 2021, Montreal’s snow warning was followed by a freezing rain warning as temperatures soared. The snowfall warning was issued around 9 p.m. Sunday and said up to 6 inches was expected. A freezing rain followed that could affect the morning commute and some schools suspended classes for the day. By midmorning, it should be raining heavily.

Environment Canada is calling for rain or freezing rain with a maximum of 7 C. Air quality in Montreal on Friday is 52, or moderate.

At night: Rain, minimum of -7 C.
