Mayor Insists Niagara Falls “Disappointing City” Has Something for Everyone | The Canadian News

Despite recent criticism in a viral Reddit thread Suggesting that Niagara Falls has been a disappointing stop for travelers, the Canadian city’s mayor insists the region isn’t too bad and offers “a buffet of fun and excitement.”

Jim Diodati says that he normally doesn’t like to read negative comments about the city, but admits that he is aware of posts that allude to the city as a tourist trap.

“We have come a long way, we have a long way to go and we are working on so many incredible things,” Diodati told Global News Radio 640 Toronto.

Starting Tuesday, the thread asking: “Which city disappointed you the most when you visited?” it now has about 7,000 comments and 6,000 upvotes.

The top of the discussions is Atlantic City, in which many taxpayers were put off by the fact that it was not the East Coast version of Las Vegas.

However, the falls received its share of disapproval, with so-called tourist traps set in an environment containing one of the world’s greatest wonders.

“I thought it would be a national park. The whole place felt like a giant mall, ”and,“… once you’re done searching… it’s just tourist traps and lots of drunk people, ”are just some of the comments given to the attraction.

Diodati suggests that the experience somehow mimics a child visiting a television studio where one views a great site with a large studio audience, when it normally is not.

“They have imagined that this is just unicorns and rainbows,” Diodati said.

“We have the rainbow part, not the unicorn part, but definitely a lot of expectations are hard to meet when it comes to your imagination.”

Before the pandemic, the Canadian and American sides of Niagara Falls combined to attract about 22 million people a year. The Canadian city receives the majority of those visits with around 14 million.

The numbers consistently place the attraction in the top 10 of the world rankings, according to farandwide.com

The waterway is actually the culmination of three waterfalls that share space between Ontario and New York State that drain Lake Erie into Lake Ontario, with more than 168,000 cubic meters (6 million cubic feet) of water per minute.

“I love Niagara Falls … I’ve only been to the Canadian side … I was never bored, it was always an amazing time … I’m not sure what you’re talking about”, and “The falls themselves deserve the worth the trip, especially if you get on the boat to get close to them. It’s spectacular, “are what some fans said.

The city’s mayor says there is a lot of nature besides the falls in the region, including 43 kilometers (26 miles) of parks and waterways.

“There is something for everyone. So depending on whether you are looking for wineries, golf, whether you just want to enjoy the beautiful natural wonder or shop and dine,” Diodati said.
