Halton police say the firearm, a bolt-action Remington Model 783 inside a camouflage box, was inadvertently left on the back deck of a pickup truck and apparently dropped while the owner was driving through town, sometime in between. 12:30 and 1:30 pm

The firearm owner reportedly drove down Poplar Ave. to Maria St., turned left on Church St. to Main St. and headed north to Wallace St. and McDonald Blvd., eventually turning to Churchill Rd. N. and then to 32nd Side Road.

The owner notified the police as soon as he realized the firearm was missing.

Officers searched the owner’s route but said they could not locate the rifle.

We apologize, but this video could not be loaded.

The rifle was unloaded and the case did not contain ammunition.

Anyone locating the lost rifle is asked not to handle it and call 911.
