Summer reading programs help students maintain or increase their reading levels in the next school year.

“Reading programs over the summer months are effective at combating what’s known as the summer slump,” says Mikyla Meyer, Children’s Program Coordinator. “Students that read several books during the summer test better than their peers in the fall. We hope to encourage reading in a fun way.”

All reading for the jungle-themed Summer Reading Game is tracked online through the Beanstack app and branded programs will be offered throughout the summer.

“The Beanstack app is easy to use and allows participants to log their reading from anywhere,” says Meyer.

Children’s Summer Reading Game

“The Children’s Summer Reading game encourages children to read every day,” says Meyer. “Logging their reading online will allow them to earn digital badges as well as the opportunity to win prizes such as a pottery wheel, Kobo Sage or Gravitrax Starter Set.”

The Children’s Summer Reading Game will begin with a free party on Saturday, June 25.

“The kick-off party will feature bouncy castles, glitter tattoos and circus fun,” says Meyer. “Join us on the Mamawe Concourse from 1 pm to 4 pm”

Teen Summer Reading Game

When teens register for the Summer Reading Game, they earn a badge and are entered for the grand prize draw.

“They can earn additional entries for the books they read each week, through social media challenges, reviewing books, and completing bonus challenges,” says Bryanna Peterson, Teen & Adult Summer Reading Game Coordinator.

Teen programs, as well as take and makes, will be offered throughout the summer.

“Teens can get together, hang out, and be creative,” says Peterson.

Reading this summer could mean a lucrative grand prize for one lucky teen. “We’ll be giving away a Nintendo Switch Lite,” says Peterson. “Get reading and you could be the winner!”

Adult Summer Reading Game

Adults will also be tracking their reading through the Beanstack app.

“Adult readers are invited to participate in our Facebook group,” says Peterson. “They can earn badges by participating in the Book Club and be entered to win the grand prize of a Kobo eReader.”
