EU authorizes Microsoft to acquire artificial intelligence company Nuance

The European Union (EU) on Tuesday authorized the acquisition of telemedicine artificial intelligence services company Nuance Communications by Microsoft, estimating that the $ 19.7 billion transaction “would not pose any competition problem” in the EU.

The European Comission, the block’s executive body, concluded that the transaction “would not significantly reduce competition in the markets for transcription software, cloud services, business communication services, customer relationship management, productivity software and operating systems for PC “, specified a statement published in Brussels.

The Commission, which, among other things, is in charge of evaluating acquisitions when the volume of business exceeds certain thresholds, gave the go-ahead to the operation notified in November 2021 “without conditions”.

The acquisition allows the US computer giant to strengthen its position in telemedicine.

Microsoft Y Nuance, based in the United States where it develops most of its activity, they have collaborated in telemedicine since 2019, a sector on the rise since the Covid-19 pandemic.
