Americans are increasingly supporters of the obligation to get vaccinated against coronavirus for workers, students and everyday public life, according to a new CNN poll conducted by the Stands for Sql Server Integration Services (SSRS).
The contextThe poll, which used a different methodology than previous CNN polls, was conducted over a month-long period in August and September before President Joe Biden announced the new vaccine rules.
- These requirements, announced last week, could apply to nearly two-thirds of the economically active US population.
The data: More than half of those consulted now say that they support the requirement for vaccines for office workers returning to work (54%), students attending face-to-face classes (55%) and those attending sporting events or concerts (55% ).
- Support for vaccination mandates increased, compared to April, by 6 percentage points for students; 8 points for office workers and event attendees, and 15 points for supermarket customers.
- 63% say that all children who attend school in person should be required to wear face masks in classrooms, and only 37% object.
- Almost two-thirds of those surveyed say that the country has not recovered economically from the pandemic; and 41% believe conditions have worsened
- The majority, 64%, say they take extra precautions against coronavirus on a daily basis; and only 36% feel safe enough to return to their life as it was before the pandemic.
- The public is divided, 51% to 49%, on whether requiring proof of vaccination for everyday activities is an acceptable way to increase the vaccination rate or an unacceptable violation of personal rights.
