Presidential 2022: more than 122,000 voters registered for the ecological primary, according to final figures

Registrations will have been late, but the figure is a record for environmentalists. Europe Ecologie-Les Verts (EELV) announced Monday, September 13, on his Twitter account, that 122,670 people had registered for the ecological primary to elect their candidate for the presidential election of 2022. On the eve of the first debate, broadcast by France Inter, Franceinfo, and in partnership with The world, which was held on September 5, EELV counted 35,000 registrants.

Until then, the record for participation in a Green primary was that of the 2012 primary, which saw Nicolas Hulot and Eva Joly compete and brought together 32,896 people. Also, 17,146 people had registered for the 2016 primary, during which Yannick Jadot was elected to the detriment of Michèle Rivasi, after the surprise elimination of former minister Cécile Duflot in the first round.

Primary fully online

The ecological primary must decide between five candidates: the MEP Yannick Jadot, the mayor of Grenoble Eric Piolle, the former vice-president of the Hauts-de-France region Sandrine Rousseau, the MP Delphine Batho and the entrepreneur Jean-Marc Governatori . The first round of the primary will take place from Thursday 16 to Sunday 19 September. The second round is organized from Saturday 25 to Tuesday 28 September.

To be able to vote in the ecological primary, open to all citizens over 16, you had to register before September 12 on lesecologistes.fr website. This is the first time that this environmentalist primary has taken place entirely online. A participation of 2 euros was also requested, except for members of one of the five organizing parties.
