But to achieve this will require political will and financial means. “We will ensure that greater climate ambition goes hand in hand with greater social ambition, because the transition must be fair“, explains the President of the Commission. She also recalls that 34 million Europeans already suffer from energy poverty.
To become a reality these promises must also gain the support of MEPs and member states. Beyond the speech, the substance of the discussions will take place behind closed doors in the institutional corridors but also in the capitals in order to find the necessary compromises.
