17-year-old Ottawa boy with pellet gun arrested outside Kingston school – Police | The Canadian News

Kingston police say a 17-year-old from Ottawa was arrested after being found outside a local high school with a pellet gun.

According to police, they received a 911 call just before 1 p.m. Thursday about a young man who possibly had a firearm outside Holy Cross Catholic High School.

Police say school staff did not recognize the teenager, who reportedly fled from school staff when approached. Then they closed the school.

Kingston Police Emergency Response Officers found the young man near Katharine Crescent and arrested him at 1:05 p.m.

Police say the teenager had a pellet gun, but the gun was never fired.

The 17-year-old has long-standing ties to his family in Kingston, police say.

He was charged with possession of a weapon for dangerous purposes and may face other charges.
