Hotels in Mexico City, Monterrey and Guadalajara register 32% occupancy as of September

Monterrey, NL. In the hotel activity from January to September 2021, the main cities: Mexico City, Monterrey and Guadalajara recorded 32.0% occupancy, recovering 7.8 percentage points with respect to the same period of the previous year 24.1%. However, the beach centers monitored by Datatur reached 44.5% occupancy, that is, 16.5 percentage points above the occupancy of the same period of 2020.

This was indicated by the Hotel and Tourism Market View, which was carried out by the real estate investment and services firm CBRE.

“With the reduction of restrictions and greater capacity in hotels, the dynamics allow hotel chains to gradually increase their commercial rates and, according to the Association of Hotels of Mexico City, a recovery will be seen until the end of 2022 ”.

“The main cities are the ones that show this trend of increase in their 4 and 5-star hotels, while in the beach centers discounts on their commercial rates still prevail,” said CBRE.

From May to September 2021, more than 13 hotels (3-5 stars) have been inaugurated incorporating more than 2,660 rooms, the largest participation of the total was in the Riviera Maya with an estimated 1,324 rooms. By the end of the year, the opening of 8 hotels (3-5 stars) is contemplated, with more than 1,800 rooms to be incorporated, the analysis mentioned.

In the case of Nuevo León, despite the fact that the service industry, including hotels, was affected by the capacity allowed by the pandemic, hotel openings did not stop its march. In February 2020, the Westin Monterrey Valle opened, with 174 rooms, and in March of that year, the Hilton Garden Inn Monterrey Obispado opened, with 176 rooms, in the tallest building in the Metropolitan Area.

Grupo Hotelero Prisma announced the start of operations of the JW Marriott Monterrey Valle with 250 rooms, on May 31, 2021. IHG Hotels & Resort adds 12 properties in Nuevo León with 2,045 rooms.

This year the Safi Royal Luxury Metropolitan will open, with 224 rooms, in the Valle Oriente area, as well as the Holiday Inn Express Monterrey Fundidora, which will have 179 rooms, close to Cintermex.

Among Grupo Presidente’s plans is the construction of the Dual Bran Hyatt Place Hotel, Hyatt House, in San Pedro Garza García, with 224 rooms, and it is estimated that it will open its doors in 2022.

Travelers to Monterrey

The Centro Norte Airport Group (OMA) reported that the Monterrey International Airport ranked first in passenger traffic of the 13 airports it handles in the country, with 6.5 million passengers from January to October of this year, which it represented an increase of 65.5% compared to the same period of the previous year.

International travelers went from 404,852 to 1,060,220, from January to October 2021, this meant an increase of 161.9% compared to the same period last year. In turn, domestic passengers reached 5.5 million from January to October 2021, a figure that grew 54.5% compared to the same period of the previous year.
