Police say the incident occurred around 7:20 p.m. on a train traveling east toward Burnaby.

The woman told police that she asked two unmasked passengers sitting near her if they had masks that they could wear.

“To which they replied, ‘What do you care?'” Traffic Police said in a statement.

Police say the suspect got up from her seat and hit the woman, knocking her to the ground. Both suspects then allegedly beat the woman while she was on the floor before exiting the train at the Metrotown station.

Police say the victim was not seriously injured.

“The circumstances surrounding this incident are worrying. Violence in any form will never be tolerated, especially when it is unprovoked and is the result of a reasonable expectation that masks will be worn in traffic during a pandemic, ”said Traffic Police spokesman Const. Mike Yake said in a statement.

Failure to wear a mask in transit can result in a $ 115 fine.

Police say the first suspect was described as a white woman in her 20s, about 5ft 5in with a medium build and long hair dyed red. He was wearing a black coat with letters on the sleeves and red sweatpants.

The second suspect was a white male, between 25 and 30 years old, who was 5 feet 10 inches tall, with a medium build and short brown hair. He was wearing a dark jacket and jeans.

Anyone with information about the assault can contact the Traffic Police at 604-515-8300 or by text message at 87.77.77.
