As it continues to snow in Winnipeg, the city says it will begin a city-wide snow removal operation Thursday night.

The plowing of the main streets, sidewalks and active transport will begin at 7 pm

“Motorists are reminded to drive according to conditions and to exercise extreme caution when driving near heavy equipment,” the city said in a statement Thursday afternoon.

Crews are expected to begin cleaning the rear lanes around 7 a.m. Friday.

Currently, there are no winter parking bans in the City of Winnipeg.

Winnipeg, and much of southern and parts of central Manitoba, remained under a snowfall warning Thursday afternoon.

TO warning for Winnipeg Posted on Environment Canada’s website Thursday afternoon says the city can expect to see 4 to 6 inches of snow by the end of the day on Thursday.

In addition to the snow, Environment Canada says the winds will strengthen and hit gusts of 70 or 80 km / h on Thursday night and into the night, which will sometimes give some stormy conditions.

Snow and wind are expected to subside early Friday as the low pressure behind the nasty weather recedes, Environment Canada says.
