Windsor Regional Hospital will no longer allow visits from COVID-19 patients, the hospital announced Sunday.

The visitor policy change, which goes into effect Monday at 12:01 am, is made “in an effort to protect patients and staff and to help contain the possible transmission of the COVID-19 virus.” Hospital officials said in a statement. Applies to patients with confirmed or suspected active COVID-19.

There will be limited exceptions for children with COVID-19 cases or COVID-19 patients who are in hospice without aerosol-generating procedures.

Officials said in-person visits can continue with individual patients once their COVID-19 case has been resolved, and virtual visits will be supported through technology including iPads. Residents can find information on virtual tours at the website .

The move comes amid a surge in COVID-19 cases across the country and in Ontario, where the province recorded more than 9,800 new cases on Sunday.

“We recognize the impact of isolation on patients and their families during this difficult time,” hospital officials said in a statement. “We appreciate your understanding as we work to continue to protect our community.”
