Windsor police charged a 33-year-old man with first degree murder after investigating what was initially reported as a car accident early Thursday morning.

Police said Friday they responded to University Avenue West and Dougall Avenue around 4 a.m. Thursday for a report of a multi-vehicle accident.
The driver of one of the vehicles, identified as a 44-year-old man from Windsor, reportedly sustained multiple injuries and was taken to hospital where he was pronounced deceased.
Police said the investigation showed the victim was allegedly involved in an altercation prior to the accident.
Police from the provincial Repeat Probation Control Brigade (ROPE) arrested a 33-year-old man around 8 a.m. Friday morning.
He is charged with first degree murder, pointing a firearm, firing a firearm with intent to injure, and possessing a dangerous weapon. Police have not identified the individual.

Police said the victim’s cause of death has not been determined pending an autopsy.
The Windsor Police Service felony unit is actively investigating and is asking anyone with surveillance or dash cameras in the area of Wyandotte Street between Dougall Avenue and Moy Avenue to review the footage from November 18 between 3 : 30 am and 4:30 am
Police said they believe this is a targeted incident with no continuing risk to public safety.
