34 Inmates, 3 Dorchester Penitentiary Employees in NB Tested Positive for COVID-19 – New Brunswick | The Canadian News

Correctional Service Canada (CSC) has announced that 34 inmates and three staff members of the medium security unit at Dorchester Penitentiary in New Brunswick have tested positive for COVID-19.

Contact tracing is ongoing and COVID-19 testing is being offered to inmates and staff within the medium security unit.

“CSC is currently using rapid tests to help detect positive cases more quickly and take action accordingly,” said CSC.

The Correctional Service of Canada said it continues to “actively evaluate all persons entering the institution, and decisions regarding access to the site, as well as programs and services, are made with the principles of public health in mind.” .

Meanwhile, further cleaning and disinfection is taking place throughout the site.

According to CSC, about 86% of inmates in the Dorchester Penitentiary’s mid-level security unit are fully vaccinated and more than 88% have received their first dose.

“We continue to offer inmates vaccinations at all federal correctional institutions,” said CSC.
