Weight is moderately appreciated despite Omicron advance

The Mexican peso closed the negotiations on Wednesday with a profit. The coin appreciated against the American dollar in a low-volume trading session for the Christmas and end-of-year holiday period.

The exchange rate closed the session at 20.7394 units against the data of 20.8173 units yesterday, with the figures of the Bank of Mexico (Banxico). The movement meant an advance of 7.79 cents or 0.37 percent for the peso.

The cross traded in a range between a maximum of 20.8606 units and a minimum of 20.7135 units. Meanwhile, the Dollar Index (DXY), which measures the greenback with a basket of six currencies, fell -0.43% at the close to 96.08 points.

The market has been stable recently despite new measures that have been announced in countries around the world to reduce the spread of the most contagious and new Covid-19 Omicron variant.

“Markets are increasingly confident that the impact of Ómicron will be limited, even as infections continue to increase in Europe, the United States and Asia,” said Janneth Quiroz, Monex deputy director of analysis.
