VivaAerobus suspends routes due to delayed arrival of planes

VivaAerobus faces a new turbulence: the late delay of aircraft by the manufacturer Airbus. Consequently, it faces adjustments in its daily operations and the airline has been forced to temporarily suspend its two routes to Medellin, Colombia, in order to use that equipment on other flights.

“In the last two weeks we have had complications in the arrival of planes. There is a serious problem in the Airbus supply chain (as a result of the Covid-19 pandemic) that affects the whole world, which is why it has been missing delivery times. In our case, it shocks us because they told us: we deliver the plane on that day and it arrives later, but in our planning it was already contemplated in the routes and it creates a difficulty for us because the tickets have already been sold”, commented the director of the airline, Juan Carlos Zuazúa.

To date, the fleet of the ultra-low-cost company is 59 aircraft and they expect the arrival of at least nine more teams this year.

Zuazua said that they have dealt with compensating the affected passengers in accordance with the law. Regarding the suspension of the Mexico City-Medellín and Cancún-Medellín routes, the company reported that, unfortunately, due to a delay in the delivery of new aircraft, it was necessary to take the measure, at least temporarily. “This situation responds to a merely strategic decision. The airline had to adapt its operation, considering the availability of aircraft, based on the routes and markets with the highest demand”, he detailed.
