The victim, Jean-Philippe Bélanger, 42, was a resident of the municipality located in the upper Gaspé region.
The man was seriously injured during the attack. Police were called around 11:30 to a home on 7th St. West, recalled Hélène St-Pierre, a spokesperson for the Sûreté du Québec.
The victim was initially transported to a regional hospital, then transferred to Quebec, where staff feared for his life.
On site, police arrested Kevin Labrie, 37. Also a resident of Ste-Anne-des-Monts, he met with SQ investigators of crimes against the person.
Labrie is to face various charges, which will be modified given the death of the victim.
“We can expect a murder charge, among others,” St-Pierre said.
