“A significant atmospheric river event will bring copious amounts of rainfall and near-record temperatures,” said Philippe-Alain Bergeron, a meteorologist at Environment Canada’s Pacific Prediction Center.

“The rain will be more intense on Sunday afternoon,” Bergeron said, due to an atmospheric river bringing moisture from the Pacific Ocean.

Up to 100mm of rain is expected for Metro Vancouver, including in Coquitlam, Maple Ridge, Abbotsford and other parts of the western Fraser Valley. Howe Sound and the eastern Fraser Valley, including Chilliwack and Hope, are forecast to see up to 150mm.

A cold front is expected to push rainfall out of the region on Monday afternoon with winds of 40 to 60 km / h in the Greater Vancouver area.
