The organizers of the Laver Cup, a Ryder Cup-style competition pitting Team Europe and Team World against one another, announced Wednesday the 2023 edition of the ATP Tour-sanctioned event will be played Sept. 22-24, 2023 at Rogers Arena in Vancouver.

The tournament was first played in 2017 and has been played previously in Prague, Chicago, Geneva and Boston. It’s generally scheduled for two weeks after the US Open.

This year’s event is scheduled for London.

Players receive guaranteed appearance fees to play and the winning team gets $250,000 in prize money. The 2021 edition attracted 10 of the top 20 ranked men’s players in the world.

Three Canadians have played in the Laver Cup to date: Milos Raonic, Denis Shapovalov and Felix Auger-Aliassime.

“Seeing the world’s best players meet on center court here in Vancouver brings a whole new level of tennis to our city,” President and CEO of Destination Vancouver Royce Chwin said in a media release.

“Vancouver is raising our game in attracting top tier sporting events to our city and the Laver Cup is another exceptional competition to add to the schedule.”

The tournament is organized by UK-based The Sports Consultancy.

“Our dream for the Laver Cup was to bring together the world’s top players — rivals year-round — as teammates, to honor the great legends of the past and bring spectacular and competitive tennis to new destinations,” Laver Cup chairman and CEO of Team8 Tony Godsick said in a media release.
