UEFA bans Russia from participating in this year’s Women’s European Championship and the World Cup


The UEFA prohibited the participation of Russia on the Women’s European Championship July and in the qualifying phase for the World Cup next year, due to the invasion of Ukrainereported on Monday the governing body of European soccer.

Portugal will replace Russia in the tournament that will be held from July 6 to 31 in England, joining the Netherlands, Sweden and Switzerland in Group C.

UEFA also declared Russia’s bid to host the European Championship 2028 and 2032 men’s tournaments and said the team will not participate in the 2022-23 Nations League.

Also, Russian clubs will not compete in the Champions League, the Europe League Hello Europa Conference League from UEFA next season.

UEFA and world football’s governing body, FIFA, suspended Russian clubs and teams from their competitions following the invasion of Ukrainewhich Moscow describes as a “special military operation”.

In March, the Court of Arbitration for Sport (TAS) rejected an appeal from the Russian Football Federation (FUR) to freeze FIFA’s suspension, thus ending his hopes of competing in the Men’s World Cup qatar.

The FUR withdrew its appeal last month.
