“This is cinema”, by Desirée de Fez

Between comments about a movie, few give more anger than this: This is cinema. And yet, what happens when a movie comes out that, no matter how hard you try to avoid it, leads you directly to pronounce it? What happens when a catchphrase that had become old, due to the changes of time, situation and way of making and understanding cinema, Does it make a little sense to you again? Can obsolete expressions be redefined in some way? Until a few days ago I thought not, and I usually fight to avoid such hateful phrases as that. But nevertheless, I went to the cinema to see Steven Spielberg’s West Side Story ‘(2021) and within 10 minutes it was engraved on his head. That phrase and another that is even more annoying: You have to see it in the movies.
