These are the minimum services for the teachers’ strike in March in public and concerted schools

The Labor Department has fixed the minimum services for the strike in public education and arranged for five days this March in Catalonia. The strike called by the vast majority of unions with representation among the professionals in the sector have called for a stoppage for the next 15, 16, 17, 29 and 30 March in Catalan educational centers. The protests go against the new curriculum and the advancement of the school year that the ‘conseller’ has announced Josep González-Cambray without the consent of the educational community.

The Generalitat has set some minimum services to guarantee a certain level of activity in the centres.

  • In the child educationon primary and secondary (from 3 to 16 years old) there must be a teacher for each classroom.

  • In the case of special education (from 3 to 16 years old) half of the center’s staff must appear at their work station.

  • Same percentages for dining room guards and staff of kitchenas well as services extracurricular and for students with special needs.

  • In the case of day care centers minimum services of 50% are also set. And in each center there must be at least one person from the management staff, that is, either the director, or the pedagogical coordinator, or the head of studies or secretary.

It will be the responsibility of the management of the centers to determine which workers will be part of the minimum services and must compulsorily appear at their jobs, regardless of whether or not they support the strikes called by Ustec Stes, CCOO, Intersindical-CSC, Aspepc Sps and UGT.

The convening centrals have denounced that the new calendar “represents serious logistical and organizational problems” and implies an overexertion for the centers that, as of September 1, they say, do not have the entire staff or the preparation of the course guaranteed.
