The southern coast of British Columbia, Vancouver Island, wakes up to snow after a few days of dry weather | The Canadian News

After a brief respite from record rains, many parts of British Columbia’s southern coast, Vancouver Island and the Fraser Valley are waking up to snow Monday.

Drivers are asked to be cautious on the roads and to take more time to travel.

City crews in the region are clearing roads and salting sidewalks.

Crews were also working to thaw cables on the Port Mann Bridge.

The snow is expected to gradually turn into rain or wet snow mixed with rain on Monday morning or early afternoon.

“Temperatures will hover close to zero in the morning here across the Lower Continent, including areas near sea level,” said Global BC meteorologist Mark Madryga.

“A couple (of) inches of snow will accumulate at sea level already happening and about two to six inches elsewhere for Metro Vancouver. In the late morning, the transition will be to afternoon showers as the temperature rises to plus three. For those in the east, Fraser Valley could easily have 4 inches of snow accumulating in the early afternoon. “
