Cruise ship that disembarked in Honduras and Mexico detects possible case of Ómicron

A probable case of the Omicron variant of the coronavirus was detected in a member of the crew of a Norwegian cruise ship that arrived at New Orleans Sunday after detecting Covid-19 among some crew and passengers, said the Louisiana Department of Health.

The likely case was found among 10 people who tested positive for the virus on Saturday, the health agency reported in a tweet on Sunday.

Since then, another seven infections have been reported, he added, raising the total number of cases among the passengers and crew of the Norwegian Breakaway, a cruise ship owned by Norwegian Cruise Line Holdings Ltd, at 17.

“At this time, there have been no changes to future scheduled voyages on Norwegian Breakaway,” a Norwegian Cruise Line spokesperson said in a statement to Reuters.

On November 28, the cruise departed from New Orleans on a week-long trip that had stops at Belice, Honduras and Mexicothe health agency said.

“NCL has adhered to appropriate isolation and quarantine protocols,” the department said on Twitter.
