The pandemic and the economy: first notes

Two years after the Covid, we notice some considerations regarding its impact on economies. The environment is not drawing as we all expected. Although the negative effects will be minor, the exit of the SARS-CoV-2 virus is not close. Governments, however, are unwilling to shut down their economies. The regions are notoriously recovering unevenly, which is a bad sign for an economy that is keeping pace with greater trade integration. At the same time we are witnessing the configuration of two commercial blocks; The US and China, with Europe submerged in nationalism, population decline and overwhelmed immigration. Controlling the pandemic out of sync warns of serious problems in recovering the global economy, which will result in a much more unequal world. To the above is added the uncertainty brought preexisting.

At this time, the transition to the post-Covid era is the greatest challenge for economies, some to correct the excessive liquidity and accumulated debt, others, due to the evident lag and distance from the international productive system. There is no historical precedent for a similar lake, except for the Spanish Flu pandemic which, for various reasons, led to the First World War. This correction will therefore be unpublished, there is no one capable of anticipating the outcome. What will be clear is the appearance of episodes of uncertainty that will put governments to the test as well as central banks and financial institutions. We are in doubt about the state’s ability to address public health problems; health systems are devastated What are states doing with their citizens’ taxes? They take an average of 35% of the income from the work of their governed from those who are not fulfilling the essentials. It was impossible to be prepared for something like what happened; The evidence is painful. Most nations did not have moderately equipped facilities, lags in medical vocations and poorly valued and paid personnel. Among other things, it is one of the evidences that have been provoking, the alteration of social humor to the limit. With the excessive and growing use of the Internet, social networks have contacted people, bringing benefits of the same proportion and magnitude to the negative things they cause such as mass manipulation and the spread of global hatred and frustrations that are impossible to solve. This fact presumes mobilizations of citizens against their governments seeking answers that can hardly be answered. It is, therefore, obliged to rethink the role of the State and the market to bring them to the fundamental principles of moral philosophy such as ethics, self-control and empathy, recognizing that it is human dignity that they have to serve and not the other way around. . We have the opportunity to value life by evaluating the person above any material value. The economic adjustments that are coming should be focused on the protection of human dignity, not money.
