The Grand Café Rouge, the ‘brasserie’ of the Fòrum

  • Romain Fornell’s new restaurant revisits French cuisine dishes in a spacious and bright place located on the ground floor of a luxury apartment building in Diagonal Mar

Barcelona is not a city with many restaurants that represent the gastronomy of France despite being a neighboring country, so the arrival of The Grand Café Rouge (Rambla de Prim, 6-8) could be considered almost an event. This ‘bright brasserie until saying enough (be careful if you sit at the tables where the sun hits) bears the signature of Romain Fornell, who bears a Michelin star for Caelis and acts as a reliable ambassador for his country’s cuisine in the Catalan capital (Joel’s Oyster Bar, Épicerie, the now-defunct Café Emma …).

Now revisits french plates run by chef Franck Radiu on the ground floor of the Antares building, a new luxury apartment building (the most expensive are more than seven million euros) right in front of the Forum designed by the architect Odile Decq.

But let no one fear for your wallet: the average price of the menu is around € 45 and there is a weekday lunch menu from Tuesday to Friday that costs € 22.

Tribute to Paul Bocuse

His proposals include his version of ‘pâté en croûte’ (duck breast, foie, sweetbreads and mushrooms), rockfish bouillabaisse, ‘pommes fondante’ and ‘rouille’ (with a layer of puff pastry to honor Paul Bocuse), onion soup, oysters, ‘bourguignon ‘of Iberian pork cheeks, bacon and mushrooms,’ bouchot ‘mussels with poulette sauce and fried potatoes, entrecote with mashed potatoes and bearnaise sauce …

The Grand Café Rouge also offers breakfast in the style of parisian cafes.

You can try their dishes in the restaurant room, on the chef’s table (called ‘L’Empreinte’) or in the private loft dining room, which is accessed by an imposing red staircase (‘oh là là’!) and which only fits six people.
