The Government announces that it will reduce the electricity tax from 5.1% to 0.5% to lower the electricity

The President of the Government, Pedro Sánchez, has advanced some measures to lower the price of electricity, which is at historic levels, but also to prevent the price of gas from being another reason for crisis with the arrival of winter.

To do this, it has announced, in addition to maintaining the VAT reduction from 21% to 10%, a reduction in the Electricity Tax, which is currently from 5.11% to 0.5%. “It is the minimum that the European Commission requires of us.”

Even so, Sánchez recalled that “we must make a distinction between the price of energy and another for the structural reform plan with renewable energy sources. We have to protect the most vulnerable consumers and we have to reduce some taxes.”
