The COVID-19 outbreak forces the closure of the Wilberforce Public School in Lucan, Ontario. – London | The Canadian News

Due to the number of classes affected by a COVID-19 outbreak at school, Wilberforce Public Schools is closed to in-person learning effective November 1, the Thames Valley District School Board said.

The board said families will be contacted with information for virtual learning and the Lucan, Ontario school is expected to reopen on November 8. Families needing technology support are asked to contact the school office.

The Middlesex-London Health Unit declared an outbreak at the school on October 28. As of noon Sunday, the health unit said there were 12 active cases associated with the school. Currently, the board reports a total of 15 cases.

In announcing the temporary closure, the TVDSB said that the board’s administration “has determined that the school’s operations and instruction pose a challenge with the current number of cases affecting multiple classes” and that the closure is intended to ensure “student safety and continuation of learning.”

This is the second TVDSB school to be temporarily closed this school year due to a COVID-19 outbreak.

Lord Elgin PS closed on September 29 and was originally scheduled to reopen on October 5, but the closure was extended until October 12.
