States bet on hotel investments


Acapulco, Gro. Quintana Roo will add at least 4,000 more hotel rooms this year, according to the announcements made in the framework of the inauguration of the Mexican Caribbean Pavilion on the first day of negotiations of the Tianguis Turístico.

Around 2,000 of these rooms will be located in the continental zone of Isla Mujeres, reported the mayor of that municipality, Atenea Ricalde.

Currently, the island municipality has more than 8,000 rooms, plus another 2,000 that are already under construction, so they are expected to come into operation before the end of the year.

Another 2,000 are under construction in the Riviera Maya, with brands such as Waldorf Astoria or St. Regis, in addition to the 1,000 recently inaugurated by Hilton with its Tulum Riviera and Conrad hotels, said Antonio Chaves, president of the Riviera Hotel Association. Maya.

He assured that both Solidaridad and Tulum, which together make up the Riviera Maya, add up to about 55,000 hotel rooms, so the 2,000 that are under construction would make them close to 60,000.

According to the Secretary of Tourism of Quintana Roo, it confirms that the Riviera Maya has 54,987 rooms, of which 44,121 are in Solidaridad and 10,866 operate in Tulum.

Isla Mujeres added a total of 8,316 rooms in January 2022, so before the end of 2022 it could exceed 10,000 hotel keys.

In total, Quintana Roo adds up to January a total of 123,079 rooms, distributed in 1,269 hotels, of which 42,245 are in Cancun, 7,057 in Puerto Morelos, 4,701 in Cozumel, mainly.

It is expected that as soon as the statistics are updated, at least 2,000 more recently opened rooms will be incorporated between February and March of this year, both in Cancun and the Riviera Maya.

A Royalton hotel is nearing completion at kilometer 11 of Kukulcán Boulevard, of which the Revolutionary Confederation of Workers and Peasants has announced that it is seeking to retain the collective bargaining agreement, but no further details of the project are known.

Mexican Caribbean expects 2,500 business appointments

The one in the Mexican Caribbean, he said, is one of the largest in the Imperial World Expo with almost 800 square meters, and where there is a business agenda with 30 work tables and 10 stands for the tourist destinations of Quintana Roo.

It is attended by 120 representatives of the tourism sector, the state Secretary of Tourism, the general director of the State Tourism Promotion Council (CPTQ), Darío Flota Ocampo, in addition to municipal representations.

Business meetings are scheduled with airlines, tour operators, different businessmen in the sector and with various state representations to continue the tourist reactivation.

Flota Ocampo commented that on the first day of activities they managed to meet with important operators from Spain, one of the main issuing markets, “we are strengthening ties for the coming summer season and in which we will have the flights of the Avoris Group, from Madrid to Cancún with five frequencies a week and, as of July, it increases to six, from Barcelona as of June 26 with two weekly frequencies, both routes with Iberojet”.

From Portugal, with Orbest, there will also be one flight per week. In addition, there are the flights from Madrid of Iberostar’s World2 Meet, scheduled for the summer with up to four a week.
