Sony plans to sell electric vehicles; presents its Vision-S prototype

The Japanese electronics giant Sony It unveiled a new prototype of its Vision-S electric vehicle on Tuesday and announced the creation of a new subsidiary tasked with exploring this rapidly expanding market.

In the traditional technological show of Las Vegas (THOSE) this week, the company revealed the Vision-S 02, a new version of its first prototype, which is being tested on the streets.

The group, mostly known for its electronic devices, televisions or its video game consoles (the popular Playstation), will create a subsidiary called Sony Mobility in the boreal spring of 2022.

Through this new branch, Sony seeks to “explore the possibility of investing in the electric vehicle market,” it said in a statement.

The Vision-S is packed with internal and external sensors and serves Sony to test its autonomous driving technologies, that is, without a driver.

The corporation is also working on the design of immersive entertainment systems.

The electric vehicle sector, however, is still small: it represents only 3% of current sales in the United States, however, it generates great media interest and investment.

The US giant General Motors (GM) plans to invest more than 35,000 million dollars in electric vehicles and robots between now and 2025. Meanwhile, the US authorities plan to spend billions to strengthen the network of charging stations or incite individuals to abandon their polluting vehicles.
