The minister called for an alliance against femicides during the presentation of the activities of the Documentation Research and Prospective Center for Security, an initiative in which the SCJN collaborates with the National Association of Universities and Higher Education Institutions (ANUIES).
“We are in a country where they kill an average of 10 women a day. We are in a country where women and girls disappear and are killed with total impunity, while society and the authorities turn the other way. This is a reality that we cannot continue to allow,” she expressed.
Accompanied by the Mexico City prosecutor, Ernestina Godoy, he affirmed that in our country there are few investigations into femicides, and these are even bad. “Why do men kill women every day? Because they can and because nothing happens. Because there are no consequences, because femicides are not investigated. The matters that are prosecuted are an almost insignificant minority, ”he maintained.

Minister Arturo Zaldívar said that violence against women is a multi-causal phenomenon, but two are the most important: the macho culture where “women are an object and men can dispose of it”, and impunity.
She indicated that hostility against women is present in school environments where teachers are allowed to harass female students and there are no policies of zero tolerance for language, jokes, looks and harassment.
Before the rector of the UNAM, Enrique Graue; the Undersecretary of Education, Luciano Concheiro; and the general secretary of ANUIES, Jaime Valls Esponda, Minister Zaldívar stated that universities have an enormous responsibility in changing culture.
“We have to take action now, because as long as this phenomenon continues, as long as hate crimes against women continue to be committed every day, this country will not have security, it will not have justice and it will not have peace, it will not be able to advance towards a society of concord and that the rule of law prevails”.
