September 11, 2001 Attacks Changed Attitudes Toward Muslim Canadians, Liberal Leader Says Justin trudeau, but his opponent Yves-Francois Blanchet is not of this opinion for Quebec.
“I can’t help but think of the Muslim Canadians for whom things changed on September 11,” Trudeau said in Mississauga, commemorating these events precisely 20 years ago.
“Attitudes have changed, and it reminds us that in recent years, to this day and also in the future, we must stand up against intolerance, hatred, racism, Islamophobia. “
The Bloc leader suggested that there was not a before and after September 11 in relations with our fellow Muslims.

“I would find it terrible that we create an association between the magnificent Muslim community of Quebec and that,” he continued.

He assured that he himself had good relations with fellow Muslims, beyond differences of opinion.

Mr. Blanchet held his press conference in Sherbrooke with his candidate Ensaf Haidar, herself a Muslim. She is the spouse of Saudi blogger Raif Badawi, imprisoned for nearly 10 years in Saudi Arabia for criticizing the despotic regime in Riyadh.
Asked to explain how September 11, 2011 had changed her life, Ms. Haidar said it was a “statement against the United States and against democracies.”
“I am a Muslim, but not an Islamist, it is different,” she insisted on clarifying.
Mr. Blanchet wished to commemorate these attacks which “changed the course of history and the way in which America and the West saw and see each other”.
These events have brought us closer to our American neighbors, in a “wave of solidarity and sadness”, he recalled.
“There are many more things that bring North American people together than there are that set them apart. “
