People young and old lined up outside a market in Moncton, NB, on Saturday for a photo and autograph from Paralympic athlete Danielle Dorris, who secured a gold and silver medal but also broke a world record. .
The meet and greet was held in partnership with the City of Moncton, and people were allowed to stop and chat with Dorris, take her photos, sign her shirts, and even hold up her medals.

“I couldn’t be more proud,” Dorris said in an interview with reporters. “My mind was determined to do it… leave everything I can in the water, I think I did that. I mean, two world records in one day are pretty amazing in my opinion. “
He swam in the S7 50-meter butterfly, breaking his own world and Paralympic record in a time of 32.99 seconds.
That was Dorris’ second medal at the Tokyo Paralympic Games. He had captured a silver in the S7 with a 100-meter backstroke.
She said the support has been amazing.
“It’s amazing. It shows how much people care and how much impact I have on others,” he said. “There are no words for the support I receive.”

Dorris said she wants to be able to use some of the popularity to raise awareness about the Paralympic Games.
“I really want to raise awareness about the fact that the Paralympic Games are parallel to the Olympic Games,” he said.
The Paralympic Games were held in Tokyo, Japan, from August 24 to September 5. Canada earned 21 medals, including five gold, 10 silver, and six bronze.
