The full of Chamber of Senators approved, unanimously (102 votes), amendments to the Social Security Law to include domestic workers in the mandatory regime that includes work risk insurance; diseases and maternity; Disability and life; retirement, unemployment in advanced age and old age, and nurseries and social benefits.
The inclusion will be done under a simplified scheme to encourage insurance. The decree was sent to the Chamber of Deputies as minutes, for review and eventual approval or modification.
The insurance scheme will allow the employer to register and enroll their domestic workers, indicating the days they work and the income they receive.
“In this sense, the registration and payment may be initiated in a manner analogous to that of the general regime of law (the payment of the first month for the days of insurance would be made monthly in arrears) and the subsequent registration and payment for full advanced periods (monthly , bimonthly, half-yearly and annual). This will be carried out in printed formats or, where appropriate, using the computer program authorized by the Mexican Insurance Institute Social”, cites the opinion in the explanatory statement
With the operation of the insurance scheme, domestic workers will be entitled to the five insurances provided by the Social Security Law:
- The sickness and maternity insurance includes medical, pharmaceutical and hospital care for the insured and their legal beneficiaries, and disability payments for general illness.
- Occupational risk insurance, in addition to the services mentioned, rehabilitation, orthoses and prostheses, disability due to work-related accidents and work-related illnesses and, if applicable, pension.
- The disability and life insurance includes a pension in case of disability for the insured and for the legal beneficiaries of the insured.
- Retirement insurance, unemployment in advanced age and old age, provides savings for pension.
- The nursery and social benefits insurance includes childcare stays for the care of minors and sports and cultural leisure activities.
