Sedena is given the administration of the Mayan Train and the Felipe Ángeles Airport

President Andrés Manuel López Obrador announced that in order to “shield” its possible privatization by a new “neoliberal” government, the National Defense and Navy secretariats will be in charge of managing the large projects that his government develops.

In a morning press conference, the president explained that works such as the Mayan Train, the new ‘Felipe Ángeles’ airport, the Palenque airport, the Chetumal airport, the new Tulum airport, among others, will be part of a company that will manage the Secretariat of National Defense.

While the entire complex of the Isthmus of Tehuantepec, the branches from Palenque to Coatzacoalcos, from Coatzacoalcos to Salina Cruz, from Ixtepec to Tapachula, the ports of Coatzacoalcos, from Salina Cruz, will remain in the custody of the Secretary of the Navy.

López Obrador argued that this decision is due to the fact that if these assets are left in charge of the National Fund for the Promotion of Tourism (Fonatur) or the Ministry of Communications “they cannot withstand even the first onslaught” or attempt to disincorporate a new government.

Remember what they did with Fonatur, which sold land at seven pesos per square meter in a tourist area; not even the cost of a square meter of carpet, and that’s how they finished everything. “

“So, budget resources are being invested because all these works (of your government) are being done without credit, it is money from the public budget, money from the entire people, there will be no debts,” he said.

López Obrador also indicated that it will be established that 75% of the profits generated by all these complexes will be for the payment of pensions for the armed forces and 25% for workers in the service of the state.

“This will guarantee us that these works are not privatized, it also guarantees us good administration and guarantees us security in everything that is the southeast, the isthmus and the southeast, both with the Navy and with the Ministry of Defense. That is what we are also seeking, “he said.
