SCJN celebrates the appointment of Loretta Ortiz as Minister

The Supreme Court of Justice of the Nation (SCJN) celebrated the designation by the Senate of the Republic, at the proposal of the president Andrés Manuel López Obrador, of Loretta Ortiz Ahlf as a member of the highest court as of December 11 when the minister will conclude his term José Fernando Franco González Salas.

Loretta Ortiz Ahlf is current counselor of the Council of the Federal Judicature from November 20, 2019 to November 19, 2024, so you must resign from the position.



She has a degree in Law from the Escuela Libre de Derecho; member of the National System of Researchers Level III. She has a doctorate in Human Rights and European Community Law from the National Distance Education University of Spain and is a Master in Human Rights from the Ibero-American University.

He was a member of the Drafting Group of the Constitution of Mexico City between 2016 and 2017; Federal Deputy from September 2012 to 2015, Counselor of the National Human Rights Commission from 2002 to 2006, and Legal Counsel of the Environmental Cooperation Agreement of the North American Free Trade Agreement from 1996 to 2006.

With 92 out of 114 votes, the Senate of the Republic appointed Loretta Ortiz Ahlf as the new minister of the Supreme Court of Justice of the Nation (SCJN), in the vacancy that Minister José Fernando Franco González Salas will leave.

Ortiz Ahlf, who was nominated for the third time for this position, protested before the senators, in the plenary session on Tuesday.
