Russia reported on Monday the first two cases of the Omicron variant of the Covid-19 in two travelers who returned from South Africa, announced the health agency Rospotrebnadzor.
“The variant Omicron was confirmed (…) in two patients who had an positive PCR test in the first 24 hours after being placed under observation, “the entity said in a statement, quoted by Russian press agencies.
The health authority indicated that all people from South Africa and neighboring countries – where this variant was detected in November – are subjected to tests and placed in special enclosures to be observed.
