Road obstructions | Areas to avoid this weekend in Greater Montreal

The weekend’s obstacles will be numerous this weekend, at the dawn of a season which promises to be busy with construction sites. In the short term, the areas of the Ville-Marie highway, the Papineau-Leblanc bridge and Highway 13 in Laval should be avoided during the weekend.

This was indicated Thursday by Mobilité Montréal, the committee responsible for coordinating major obstacles to traffic in the metropolitan region.

The day before, Wednesday, the same committee had said it expected an “easier” construction season this year due to certain progress that has been made in planning. That said, the summer promises to be busy again in the region, with more than forty major construction sites in activity, especially in the Highway 40 corridor and downtown.

From the outset, the highway and the Ville-Marie tunnel will be completely closed on a significant section, in both directions, throughout the weekend. Towards the east, traffic will be impossible between exit 2 for Atwater Avenue and the Atateken Street entrance.

Heading west, motorists will not be able to travel between the start of the highway, at rue Panet, and the entrance to rue Lucien-L’Allier.

Further north, the Papineau-Leblanc bridge linking Laval to Montreal will be completely closed throughout the weekend, in order to continue the major renovation work that has been underway there for several months now. The Pie-IX, Viau or Médéric-Martin bridges are preferred.

Highway 13 will also be heavily overloaded, while three lanes will be closed heading south between exit 12 and the Louis-Bisson bridge during the nights of Friday and Saturday. During the days of Saturday and Sunday, one and two lanes will be closed respectively in the same area.

Heading north, two of the three lanes will also have to be cut overnight from Sunday to Monday on Highway 13 between Henri-Bourassa Boulevard and exit 12, which again includes the Louis-Bisson Bridge.

Quebec will also have to completely close the Saint-Pierre interchange ramp leading from Route 132-west, coming from Sainte-Catherine, to Route 138-est, towards Châteauguay, for the entire duration of the end of week.

In Saint-Bruno-de-Montarville, contraflow traffic will be in place on Route 116 westbound. Only one lane per direction will therefore be available between Highway 30 and Boulevard Seigneurial Ouest.

In Centre-du-Québec, only two lanes will be open, one in each direction, on the Laviolette bridge, between Trois-Rivières and Bécancour. Users coming from Montreal or Quebec are invited to use highways 20 or 40 to go from one shore to the other.

Finally, notice to users of the Réseau express métropolitain (REM): the latter will be unavailable Saturday and Sunday, between 5:30 a.m. and 7:30 a.m., due to a systems update. Bus shuttles will be in place during this period to provide a link between Brossard and downtown Montreal.
