The Center de services scolaire du Fer announced shortly before 9 a.m. that students from Jean-du-Nord and Manikoutai should stay home because morning classes were canceled. The school buses that were taking the children to class were redirected to take them back home.

However, school personnel remained on site.

The police operation began just two hours before Quebec Health Minister Christian Dubé met with the press in Sept-Îles to announce the expansion of a local hospital.
