Regina Police Warn Public of Door-to-Door Scam Attempt – Regina | The Canadian News

The Regina Police Service (RPS) is alerting the public to a recent incident involving an attempted scam in the city. The incident was reported to the police by a citizen of the Glencairn neighborhood, where a woman asked for a charitable donation.

The attempted fraud scam occurred on November 4, 2021, at approximately 8 p.m. The woman, who described herself as being around 25 years old, knocked on a door claiming to be collecting from a known goodwill organization.

“The woman stated that due to COVID-19, they only accept donations with credit cards instead of cash,” according to a police statement.

“The woman made many references to neighbors in the area, made convincing assertions about the legitimacy of her campaign, and highlighted the importance of the organization’s mandates.”

RPS indicated that when the resident agreed to make a donation and share their credit card number, another person from the residence intervened and the woman left. The two then checked the organization’s website, which confirmed that the organization does not seek door-to-door donations.

The woman is described as dark-haired, heavily built and wearing a black hoodie and leggings. The woman wore a name tag with the logo printed on it and affixed to a laminated tag.

The police are asking the public for help for anyone they think is a victim of this scam and to report it to the authorities.
