Reader’s Letter: More Vaccine Mandates Needed in Canada and Around the World

Article content

Hundreds of millions of doses of vaccines have been administered, providing recipients around the world with tremendous protection against COVID-19, but still some say that “vaccines are lethal or unproven.”

The world has seen more than five million virus-related deaths: Canada has 30,000 and the US 800,000. In Canada, unvaccinated adults aged 60 and over are 16.8 times more likely to be hospitalized compared to those who are fully vaccinated.

But it does not seem to matter how much data is presented to those who are not vaccinated, they are simply determined not to change their minds, although you can be sure that they will wait for medical help if they become infected with COVID-19.

I just don’t understand the attitude of non-vaccinators. Does life mean so little to them?

I’ve seen friends have heart attacks and cancer, but they have one thing in common: they fought to survive.

The new variant of Omicron appears to be less lethal, but it is highly contagious and up to five times more likely to re-infect former COVID-19 patients. That is why the booster shot is now recommended.

Many people who get vaccinated are tired of the vicious cycle we find ourselves in. We would like to enjoy life without restrictions. Life is too short.

I think we need vaccination mandates in Canada and around the world to help prevent new variants of COVID-19 similar to Delta and Omicron from forming, and potentially even more lethal.
