Querétaro hotels plan to close the first semester with 45% occupancy

Queretaro, Qro. During the first five months of the year, hotel occupancy reports a constant improvement in the entity, projecting that the accumulated figure for the first semester reaches 45%, according to estimates from the Queretaro Association of Hoteliers (AQH).

The president of the AQH, Luis Signoret, stressed that reaching this indicator would still be below the pre-pandemic occupancy average, which in 2019 was between 56 and 57%; however, he stressed that this year the balance of the recovery has been positive.

“We are very happy, we are progressing very well, occupations are on the rise and many people are visiting us, derived from so many celebrations. (…) We calculate that in the first semester we are closing at 45% occupancy and it would put us in a very interesting scenario compared to 2019, when we closed at 56 to 57% ”, he pointed out.

At the beginning of the year, occupancy was between 22 and 23%; In April alone, he added, the monthly occupancy closed at 55%, a similar level with which it is expected to have closed in May, trusting that in the January-May period the accumulated occupancy will remain between 43 and 44 percent.

The realization of various social and cultural events leaves a positive outlook for the hotel sector, among them – he listed – the Cheese and Wine Fair that takes place in Tequisquiapan, the Fan Festival of the Champions that took place this weekend and the Querétaro Experimental Festival, a cultural event based in the center of the capital.

“So many festivals that we have had and that generate a lot of demand for Querétaro, that is what makes the city have a lot of movement and that generates a very important economic benefit for various sectors,” he said.

The hotels of the AQH Weekends with occupancies of up to 90% have been reported, particularly on Saturdays.

Added to the expectations for the first half of the year are the eves of the second half of 2022, which is expected to be even more dynamic than the first half, particularly from September to November.

“With that we are moving forward, recovering, the best is still to come, the second half of the year is coming, regularly the second half is better than the first, we consider that September, October and November are going to be very interesting months, we have festivals,” he added.

National tourism has greatly contributed to the recovery process of the hotel industry, since it represents between 85 and 90% of the guests, the rest are international tourists.

Regarding the participation of the AQH in the Tianguis Turístico 2022, promotion agreements were generated with counterparts from Tlaxcala; in addition to having an approach with the sector of Jalisco, Guerrero and Huatulco, Oaxaca.
