Two units representing chief engineers, first and second mates and engineers voted 100 per cent in favour, according to the union, while a third unit, representing everyone from ticket and reservation agents to able and ordinary seamen and chief cook, voted 75 per cent in favour.

Unifor represents 65 local employees of the Owen Sound Transportation Company.

“They deserved to be recognized more appropriately in terms of their financial compensation, especially when others within the organization at different locations were enjoying a better overall wage and benefit package,” the union said in a social media post.

Local workers were set to walk off the job on May 20 but strike action was put on hold as union and company representatives continued bargaining towards a tentative agreement.
